In May 2022, we worked on our own project in AP Physics 2. I decided to build an electrical motor. In particular, I performed the following tasks:
- Conceptualized motor with permanent magnets on rotor and coils activated with reed switches on the stator, supplied with 5V from a USB connector
- Designed all parts in Fusion 360
- Printed parts on 3D printer
- Wound coils with the help of a power drill
- Debugging. This included finding the best angle between the coils and reed switches, and preventing the reed switches from burning up
